SICILY WINE TOUR
We embrace so much that is fabulous about this southern Mediterranean island on this wine tasting tour. Sicilian history, culture, and lifestyle having evolved over 10,000 years of habitation make this a fascinating experience, however, the main events are undoubtedly the Planeta stable of wineries.
We usually spend one night in Palermo, three nights on the Planeta estate La Foresteria just outside Menfi, and two nights in Taormina. Welcome to this wonderful island.
A JOURNEY THROUGH SICILY WITH PLANETA
Our journey into Sicilian wine took on a new dimension when we first met Francesca Planeta, a wonderful and charismatic lady, who with the family, manage a very fine collection of wineries.
The family’s pedigree has been centuries in the making, they acquired their first estate at Ulmo in 1694 and seventeen generations later their voyage in Sicily has continued from Menfi to Vittoria, from Noto to Etna and Capo Milazzo.

THE WINERIES
From the Menfi, Ulmo and Dispensa vineyards on hills 450 mtrs from the coast and near sea level, Planeta produce, amongst others, Grillo, Fiano and Chardonnay.
The Buonivini vineyard at Noto in the south east of the island produce the delicious Nero D’avola, and to Sciaranuova embedded between the lava flows and stretching up to an altitude of 1000 mtrs on the Northern slope of Etna, the Nerello Mascalese and Carricante flourish in this harsh landscape along with the more recent plantings of Pinot Noir and Riesling.
We enjoy tutored tastings and lunches on these private hosted visits.
ACTIVITIES
With your personal guide we include a tour of Palermo, including the markets, and the street food here is fantastic! We also like the beautiful village of Sambuca di Sicilia and the historic Agrigento, where we take lunch on the terrace at the renowned Villa Athena.
We can take a heli tour over Mount Etna when we are staying at the ancient village of Taormina, and maybe a concert at the open-air Teatro Antico di Taormina dating back to the 3rd century.
Importantly, we don’t forget that you are on holiday, so there is also plenty of time for you to visit the coast, go exploring the local area or just kick back and relax by the pool.
WINE TOURING WITH VXO IN SICILY

Wine touring on the island is typically over five or seven nights although we can extend your tour to include other activities within the itinerary.
We can also combine this with other VXO winery tours to create a wonderful two or three centre European winery experience by private jet.
Touring is not just about the wine, we include all travel on the island, accommodation, dining, relaxation, and those must see and do’s that your party desires.
We have considerable tour management experience and expertise, with a dedicated team who understand the dynamic of multi-location touring, and we personally host your group.
We recognise that things can change for any number of reasons when on tour, so we provide a 24/7 concierge service to assist and help you and your party in any way, always acting with discretion and confidentiality.
TRAVEL
Ground transport is in chauffeured executive VIP vehicles accommodating groups up to twelve people.
We can arrange to bring you into Sicily by private jet from your departure city, if that works best for your party. Or should you be travelling in your own aircraft there are three airports available for your routing, where we can collect your party.
There is improved European scheduling for flights to Sicily, and there are direct long-haul flights into both Milan and Rome with onward domestic routings into Palermo and Catania.
We can accommodate parties from private yachts in the Southern Mediterranean with Heli transfers as required.
ACCOMMODATION & DINING
We stay over in Palermo, Menfi and Taormina in superb hotels and accommodation is of course in suites.
Ingredients on the island are some of the best in the world thanks to the diversity of the soil and of course the sun, so everything that grows here is bigger and better.
